M-Pede Insecticidal Soap Concentrate (2.5 Gallon)

M-Pede is a natural pesticide for insect and mite control on fruit trees. A staple in organic pest control, this contact insecticidal soap is derived from potassium salts and is totally biodegradable as well as environmentally safe. It works as a smothering and desiccating agent on a wide variety of insects: aphids, whiteflies, spider mites, scales, leafhoppers, grasshoppers, earwigs and others.

It is thought to disrupt the cellular metabolism of insects and mites. It has been used to control a variety of insects on various crop and noncrop plants. Insecticidal soap is only effective in the liquid state as it contacts the insect or mite. Once dried, it is not toxic to the pest.

Sprays can be applied up to the day of harvest. There is, however, a lingering concern about fruit russeting associated with the product, especially in dilute applications. Moreover, it may be toxic to Stethorus, the black ladybird beetle mite predator. Therefore, at present we recommend insecticidal soap only for nonbearing apple and pear trees.

Since it works on contact, it must be sprayed directly onto the pest. Do not spray foliage in full sun; spray in early morning or in the evening when temperatures are below 85°. Be sure to spray the undersides of leaves. Apply at the rate of 4-6 Tbs (2.5 fl oz)/gal of water or 2 gal/100 gal of water per acre. Hard water reduces the soap's effectiveness.
