This 1.0 mil blue plastic mulch not only suppresses weeds and retains moisture but it also increases production in plants such as summer squash, cucumbers, and melons. Blue mulch has been shown to increase fruit production from up to 20% due to the reflection of certain growth-enhancing light waves from sunlight on to the plant.

This dramatic increase has resulted from the film reflecting primarily blue light up onto the plant. A color sensitive protein within the plant that regulates plant growth and development is triggered during this reflecting period.

Blue plastic mulch has also been shown to keep soil as warm, if not slightly warmer than, black plastic mulch. Additionally, weeds are kept in almost total control and moisture is retained in soil to a much higher degree.
