Pressure Meters – Manometers

Pressure meters are used all around us in hot water tanks, water systems, air compressors and steam systems. Many of these systems can become unsafe if not properly monitored or kept in check. Tires and high pressure water jets rely on high pressures that need to be monitored and kept within certain limits to ensure efficient performance.

Manometers are pressure testing devices usually associated with pressures close to that of atmospheric pressures. Pressure can change quickly as the altitude changes, making manometers valuable tools in determining the differences. In a vacuum or in a slightly pressurized area manometers are used. Additionally natural gas pipelines are still relatively low pressure which can be measured by some manometers. The term “atmosphere” is a term referring to pressure as it relates to the pressure exerted on us by the atmosphere at sea level at the latitude of Paris, France where it was coined. Manometers often measure in atmospheres as it can relate to low pressure ranges.
