Guidelines for Calculating Liner Dimensions
This method works best for ponds with a relatively uniform depth. For irregular shapes and significant depth variations, you may need to perform additional measurements.
First, you will need to know the length, width, and depth (height) of your pond. If you’re not sure, begin by taking measurements at the longest point, the widest point, and the deepest point.
To calculate your liner’s width, multiply the height of the pond x 2 as the liner will have to go down one bank and back up again on the other. Add this number to your pond’s width. We recommend adding an additional 4’ (2’ on each bank) to go above the ground and anchor the liner.
Repeat the process to calculate your liner’s length. Multiply the height of the pond x 2 and add this number to your pond’s length. Add an additional 4’ to go above the ground and anchor the liner.
Liner Width = (Hole Height x 2) + Hole Width + 4’.
Liner Length = (Hole Height x 2) + Hole Length + 4’.
