An oscilloscope produces a graphical display of constantly varying signal voltages. With time as the X axis and voltage as the Y axis you can measure practically any signal which can be converted to a voltage. Oscilloscopes are vital to electronic testing, medical applications, engineering and telecommunications.

The most common application of an oscilloscope is for troubleshooting malfunctioning electrical equipment. This is done by “probing” an electrical component for an expected signal. If the signal matches what is expected the equipment is working correctly, if a flawed or non-existent signal is received then the equipment is malfunctioning.

Progressive signal probes are used to isolate faults in the electronics which are then fixed and isolation of other faults can begin. Another use of an oscilloscope is to test newly designed circuitry. Problems with these include bad design, incorrect voltages and electrical noise. The storage capacity of this oscilloscope is useful for tracing unusual waveforms and unexpected events usually found when troubleshooting new circuitry. A skilled technician can sometimes determine the offending component based purely on the picture developed.

This hand-held oscilloscope is ideal for field applications and testing of audio-frequencies. With a rugged outer casing and a dual channel display the comparison of differing waveforms has never been easier. With a rugged carrying case to safely transport to any job site.

This oscilloscope also features the functioning of a Multimeter, being able to test AC and DC Voltage and Current, Resistance, Capacitance, diode and continuity. This instrument is easily connected to a PC for further analysis and manipulation of the data. The MS420 Digital Oscilloscope User Manual is attached to this page to answer any further questions.
